What you can get out of a Learning Day at Newman University
Choosing which degree to study, and where to study it, is one of the most important decisions you are ever likely to make and can be quite daunting. If you have visited Newman University and are still unsure, there is a solution to your problems – attending a Learning Day!
Each university has their own name for these kind of events, some call them Taster Days or Sixth Form Conferences, but here at Newman we call them Learning Days. They are an opportunity to “try before you buy” – allowing you to experience a day in the life of a University student before you commit to making an application to study the course via UCAS. At Newman University, we offer Learning Days twice a year; each Summer and Autumn for the majority of our undergraduate courses.
Each morning is focused on a particular subject area and you will spend your time with the lecturers who would be delivering your course (if you chose to study at Newman). You will also share a classroom with students from different schools and colleges from across the West Midlands. It’s a perfect opportunity for you to step out of your comfort zone and network with other students who have a shared passion for the subject area you are interested in. It can be scary having to talk to new people, but it’s a taster of what it will be like when you start university and will give you experience on forming new friendship groups.
Our Learning Days begin with an overview of the courses available within that department, you will then go on to experience a number of interactive sessions that mirror what it would be like to study at Newman University. Rather than being a passive listener to a large lecture hall, you will be split into smaller groups, and get to proactively discuss and debate ideas and theories, demonstrating Newman’s interactive teaching style.
Each Learning Day ends up with a question and answer session, and an optional tour of the Newman University campus. By the end of the morning, you will have been able to get a sense of whether the course here at Newman is the right choice for you. We encourage you to make the most of these opportunities available here at Newman, so you feel prepared to make the right decision of which course you will be studying.
Why not come along to one of upcoming learning days and experience a day in the life of a Newman student, and discover if Newman is the University for you?https://www.newman.ac.uk/event/learning-days-autumn-2019/
