‘What course is right for me?’, ‘what student support is available? ‘what will my classes be like?’ These are the questions you might be asking yourself as you start to consider University. You’ll find the answers to these, plus more, at an Open Day.

Below are the top 5 reasons we consider an Open Day as vital for the university experience.

1. Meet your future academics

At university, you will be spending a lot of time with academics and tutors, and one way to find out if a course is right for you is to speak to academics beforehand. At our Open Days, staff from every subject will be available for a casual chat or to answer any specific questions you might have. Many attendees mention feeling more at ease about the process after meeting their supportive future academics.

2. Check out all of the facilities

You can never truly imagine life as a university student unless you’ve walked through campus. Book yourself a tour and visit all of our facilities including accommodation, the gym, library and social spaces. These are often delivered by student ambassadors so are the perfect time to get in those niggling questions about what it’s truly like to be a university student at Newman.

3. Speak to Support Services

Student Support refers to services such as Finance, Admissions, Student Support and Accommodation. An Open Day is the best place to speak to all of the Support Services in one place, so you can leave with an entire picture of your university journey. Our friendly faces help you with applying to university, how to afford it, and once you’re a student, what other support you can receive.

4. Hear from current students

This might be the most important reasons to visit an Open Day. Current students are best placed to answer those questions you may not want to ask staff and academics directly. Who better to prepare you for university than someone going through it themselves? Ask them anything from how they found the transition to university to how they find balancing study and work, and what support is available. You may even find a friendly face to look out for in future.

5. Life outside of university

The university experience is more than just education. At Newman, we pride ourselves on creating a sense of community. Our Students’ Union is available at Open Day, so make sure you stop by to find out about societies which may interest you, regular events you can be involved in and how to settle into university.
