How to Use UCAS Extra
UCAS Extra is another chance for you to gain a place at a university. Applications to UCAS Extra open on 25th February and run until 4th July 2022.
You will be eligible to use UCAS Extra if you meet all of the following criteria :
- You used all five choices on your application
- You have received decisions from ALL of your universities
- You were not accepted for any of the offers that you did receive or, you declined all of the offers you received
If you did not use all five of your choices on your initial application, you can just add another choice into Track, as long as it is before the deadline of 30th June. You also cannot have accepted or declined any offers to be eligible to add a choice. If you originally only applied to one choice and want to add more, you’ll be asked to pay the extra £4.50 application fee in Track.
If you don’t hold any offers after 4th July, you will be able to add an additional choice using Clearing.

Adding another choice using UCAS Extra is straightforward and can be done in three steps:
- Search for courses with vacancies using the search facility on UCAS.com
- Get in touch with the university you would like to apply to and check they are able to consider you for the course
- Once you have spoken to the university add the details into UCAS Track.
What happens after you have added a choice?
- The university you have applied to will inform you of their decision in UCAS Track. If you accept their offer, you won’t be able to apply to any more in Extra.
- Make sure you reply to the offer by the date indicated in UCAS Track, or your offer will automatically be declined.
- If you opt to decline the universities offer, or a decision is not communicated to you within 21 days, you can then use UCAS Extra to add another choice.
