Student Voice – Counselling and Psychotherapy celebrate their students’ successes

Counselling and Psychotherapy
This year’s graduation took place on the 31st October at Birmingham Symphony Hall and was a chance for the Counselling and Psychotherapy team to celebrate their students’ successes.
Juliet Shaw, who graduated from the Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling shared this reflection: ‘I loved my time at Newman University. My training as an Integrative Counsellor was one of the hardest but best things I have ever done. The learning environment was so friendly and supportive and I felt very respected as a unique individual, on my own journey of personal and professional growth. For me, it was just what I was hoping for and I have never been more aware of the sensation of smiling, as when I walked up onto the stage at graduation. It came from a place of feeling not only proud for becoming qualified, but from a place of feeling the warmth and support of everyone around me. I have learnt so much, met so many lovely people and value having such a positive experience.’
Faisal Mahmood, Head of Subject Area, also said of the event: ‘It’s was so lovely to see many of our counselling and psychotherapy students graduating this year. The whole team was so proud of them. To the counselling studies graduates – I wish you all the best for your next chapter in your life. To Foundation Degree and MSc graduates – I welcome you all as colleagues in counselling / psychotherapy field. Studying to become a therapist is a demanding journey – both academically and emotionally. It involves painstakingly stretching many muscles – cognitive, sensory, emotional, and experiential. Events like graduation recognise all that hard work and celebrate it accordingly’.
Well done to all who graduated! And, we look forward to next year where we have no doubt that more students will be walking out on stage!
