As Newman is a single-site campus it won’t take you long to feel at home after you have enrolled.
The buildings and areas on campus are all named after influential people in history. The building names will be shortened on your timetable and will have a room number after the letters, rooms starting in 0 will be on the ground floor, starting in 1 on the first floor and 2 on the second floor. Use the handy key below to work out where you need to be:

There are a few key areas which you’ll likely to want to find within the first week of being at university, these may include:
The library is one of the first things you’ll see from main reception at the front of the campus. It’s located in the St Chad building and you’ll be able to find spaces to work at a computer, work in groups or work silently. The library staff are also on hand for any questions you might have.
Starbucks is located in the main Atrium, near reception and also near the library. Here you can grab a bite to eat or a drink to keep you going throughout the day.
Opposite Starbucks in the main Atrium you will see the Students’ Union office so if you are looking to get involved with any societies or volunteering whilst at university head to the SU office and they’ll be happy to have a chat with you.
Student Support covers a wide range of topics, visit the Student Support page to learn more. Student Support is located in the Dwyer building. To access the Student Support team, you will need to go into the library and make your way upstairs. At the top of the staircase, with the lifts behind you, turn right and you will find a balcony walkway which goes directly into Student Support.
The Sanctuary is the university’s main eatery where you can find a range of hot and cold food including a menu from which you can order your favourite meals. Senses Bar is the university bar. They are located in Barberi Building.
To get to the Sanctuary from main reception, make your way down the steps into the quad. Keep walking straight and go down the second set of stairs and through the automatic doors straight ahead of you. You’ll then need to go downstairs and keep walking straight, down a few steps, and the Sanctuary will be on your left-hand side.
Senses Bar is also in this part of the building. Make your way through the seating area and on the left you will see some steps, at the top of the steps is the bar area.
If you need to speak with the finance office you can find them in the Dupuis building.
To find the office from main reception, make your way down the steps into the quad. Keep walking straight and go down the second set of stairs and through the automatic doors straight ahead of you. You’ll then need to go downstairs and through the double glass doors before turning left. The finance office is then down the corridor on your left-hand side.
The Faculty of Education office is located in Darwin Building. To access the office from main reception, turn right at the reception desk and make your way up the steps. Follow the corridor round, past the lab and the office will then be on your right-hand side.
To access the office from Ryland Quad, go through the automatic doors at the bottom of the stairs to the main entrance. Go up the stairs directly ahead of you and at the top of the stairs the office will be on your left-hand side.
The Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies can be found in the Elgar building. To access the faculty office from main reception, make your way down the stairs by the Students’ Union office. At the bottom of the stairs turn left and go through the automatic doors. Continue walking straight with the Newman University timeline on your right-hand side. At the end of the corridor, with the computer room in front of you, turn right. Keep walking straight, through the glass door, to the end of the corridor and the office will be the last office on the left.
The IT service desk can help with a number of issues including printing issues, issuing student ID cards, door access issues, logging in to computers, password problems and other general IT queries.
The IT helpdesk is located outside ST111 (the large lecture theatre).
To find the IT helpdesk from main reception, make your way down the steps into the quad. Turn right at the bottom of the steps and make your way down the ramp. At the bottom of the ramp turn left and walk straight with the quad on your left. When you get to the end of the path turn right into the Sturge building. The helpdesk will then be located on your right-hand side as you walk through the automatic doors.
Admissions is based in ‘The Hub’ in the Barberi building and deal with the application process of students. If you have any questions regarding your application, the admissions team would be the best people to speak with.
Assessments deal with a number of things including exam information, resit information and mitigating circumstances amongst other areas. You may also need to hand in your work to the team who are based in ‘The Hub’ in Barberi.
The Registry team deal with MyNewman, student data and student loans company attendance confirmation.
To find the above teams, make your way to the IT Helpdesk using the above directions. Once at the helpdesk continue walking straight before turning left into The Hub. Walk towards the back of The Hub and the office will be on your left-hand side through the automatic doors.
The careers team are able to help you with work placements, jobs whilst studying as well as future employment.
The careers hub is currently being renovated so you can find the careers team in their temporary home in the Julian of Norwich Building, however if you wish to meet with the careers team, you can either email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit https://mycareer.newman.ac.uk to book an appointment and the team will meet you in Reception.
From October the careers team will be located in ‘The Hub’ in the Barberi building.
To find the careers team, from October, make your way to the IT helpdesk using the above instructions. Once there, continue walking straight and then turn left into The Hub. You will find the careers offices towards the back of The Hub.
If you would like to join the university gym when you start you will find this located in Edwards building. To access Edwards building, make your way to the Sanctuary using the above instructions.
When in the Sanctuary walk all the way through the seating area to the automatic doors. This will take you outside and directly in front of you will be the Edwards building where you will find all of the sports facilities.
If you do find yourself a little lost or unsure where you are supposed to be, don’t worry. You can either ask a member of staff who will be wearing a grey lanyard or ask a fellow student; we’re a friendly bunch at Newman so whoever you ask will help you find your way.
